Wyong Cup to go ahead

By Caryl Williamson

The Wyong Cup meeting has been given the go ahead after an inspection of the track following two days of heavy rain.

The Cup was washed out on Friday and the club originally hoped to reschedule the meeting to December to coincide with the Magic Millions day.

However, Racing NSW intervened and the 2100m Cup, a leadup to next month's Metropolitan Hcp (2400m) will go ahead on Monday on a track rated a heavy (9).

Senior steward Alan Reardon, who walked the track with club personnel on Saturday afternoon, said it was in very good shape considering the deluge.

"We could have raced on it this afternoon," Reardon said.

"It has drained off well and was completely different from what we saw on Friday.

"There is a forecast for possible showers tomorrow but nothing like what we had."

The NSW Central Coast and Sydney were soaked over 48 hours with the Newcastle and Randwick race meetings called off on Saturday.

Three of the four feature races on the Randwick program will be run on Tuesday in conjunction with the seven-race card already scheduled while the Listed Ming Dynasty will be held at Rosehill on Saturday.

Enzedex Eagle was backed into Wyong Cup favouritism with TAB Sportsbet last week and retained his position at the top of the market.

Trainer Chris Waller says he will definitely head back up the highway with the five-year-old who is owned by local businessman Col Keane.

"It would be great to win it for the owner because it's his local Cup and it means so much to him," Waller said.

"Enzedex Eagle loves the wet so a heavy track is no problem."

The gelding has had five starts on slow or heavy ground for three wins and two placings.

Waller said Doncaster Handicap winner Triple Honour would be a starter in the transferred Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick on Tuesday after initial fears he would head to Melbourne with the four-year-old if the race was not reprogrammed.
